WE ARE NESEHNUTÍ Independent Social Ecological Movement
By empowering communities, groups, and individuals, we strive for a more just world. Through civic campaigns, public outreach, and education, we prove that even a single person or a small group can set a new course, inspire others, and drive positive change.

A just and equal society is something we build together every day. It is a collective responsibility.
We are often asked, „Who’s the boss?“ But a just and equal society has no need for bosses. We believe in collective decision-making. At NESEHNUTÍ, responsibility is not concentrated in the hands of a few, but is distributed equally across the entire collective. Learn how your organization can adopt a democratic model as well.
All members are actively involved in the decision-making process, ensuring every voice is heard. Moving away from top-down mandates allows us to be more creative and develop more effective solutions. This horizontal approach helps us establish meaningful rules, define our boundaries, shape strategies, and reach our objectives. Read our strategic plan valid until September 2028. NESEHNUTI—a name representing both the „Independent Social Ecological Movement“ and the phrase „those who will not bend“—was founded in 1997. Since then, we have proven that we refuse to bow to sexism, discrimination, the arms industry, or the interests of developers.
Over the years, we have successfully initiated critical discussions and advanced public debate on numerous social and environmental issues.
For a decade, we tackled the problem of sexist advertising by organizing the annual „Sexist Piglet“ anti-prize and publishing expert reports. We also hosted annual Equal Pay Day events and the „Active Parenthood“ conference.
We successfully advocated for fair rules in the amendment of the Building Act, ensuring that authorized inspectors can no longer circumvent the law during the construction approval process. Furthermore, we successfully challenged the controversial update to the Brno city zoning plan, which would have compromised the city’s green spaces in favor of developers.
We led a campaign for migrant health insurance to change the law and ensure that migrants with long-term residence in the Czech Republic have access to the public healthcare system.
Through our „Brnotoč“ campaign, we mobilized citizens to demand eco-friendly transportation from municipal candidates. We also organized Brno’s first Critical Mass ride, founded the local chapter of Food Not Bombs, and much more.
